French Revolution Storybook

Mr. Holland

You will create an illustrated children’s storybook that chronicles the major events of the French Revolution and describes how the revolution contributed to the rise of democracy.  It should be written in simple, clear language so that anyone could read and enjoy the story.

Your storybook will contain ideas generated in class and during Mrs. Erickson’s presentation and will include these features:

1.      A visually appealing cover page with appropriate title and a title page with dedication following. You will also need to include an alphabetized glossary of the key words of the story book.

2.     A brief introduction that describes the conditions in France in the late 1780’s.

3.     Sections on each of these six events: the meeting of the Estates General, the Tennis Court Oath, the storming of the Bastille, the march of Versailles, the Reign of Terror, and the rise of Napoleon

4.     Each section must contain 1) an illustration of the event, 2) a summary describing how the event related to the French Revolution, 3) a brief explanation of whether the event represented a step toward or a step away from democracy and 4) use of all the vocabulary that appears in the word bank presented in class.

5.     A brief conclusion that explains how the events of the French Revolution contributed to the growth of democracy.

6.     Addition touches to make the storybook artistic and visually appealing – a good binding, page numbers, and your creative touch.

7.     Your books may be handwritten in ink or typed.
