Hello, my name is Linda Cox, and I have been teaching in the William S. Hart Union District for 20 Years. I first started teaching at Hart High School and have been with West Ranch High School now for 12 years. I have also been an Adjunct Professor for Cal Poly, Chapman University, and Allan Hancock College instructing finance and economics.
I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business and have previous work experience as a Stock Broker, Market Research Analyst, and Entrepreneur. All that being said... yes, that makes me one of the oldest aged staff members on campus! hehahhaha! I am super passionate about teaching business, career opportunities, and finance! I love nothing more than to wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee, see how the markets are doing and chat with students!! Guess you could say I am a Business Geek!
I have two children who don't live at home anymore. My oldest son, Thomas, lives in San Luis Obispo and works for a cool mountain bike company called Lezyne. He is also returning to back to college and studying Business Industrial Technology and Packing (Supply Chain Management). My daughter, Ingrid, is a graduate from ASU with a Bachelors in Nursing. She is a High-Risk Pregnancy Nurse for Banner University Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Ingrid is currently engaged and the wedding is this October near the Superstition Mountains, AZ. Her fiance, Stevie Sipprell, is a Video Game Designer working for Arizona State University. I do have one other child, my dog Dexter! He is a Maltipoo that we rescued when he was two months old and is very spoiled! My husband is retired now and loves to travel, cook, spoil me and listen to his vast vinyl record collection.
Our Stock Market Club is incredibly successful! Last year we swept all categories for Southern California in the Fall and Spring for the Stock Market Games. We have consecutively won for approximately ten years and have been winning since I have begun teaching. Two years ago, we had an incredibly successful year with students winning 'First' (2 years in a row - 500 entrants from all over the world) again in the International Financial Investment Analysis Competition through Wharton University called Knowledge@Wharton.
First in Southern California for multiple Division and First in the Investwrite Financial Essay Contest for all of California. I could not be more proud of my students and all their achievements of this global magnitude! This year we will be focusing on the Capitol Hill Competition where we are paired with our Congressman in a Financial Competition.
I am on half assignment at West Ranch High School, and I also work for the Career and College Readiness Department at the District Office. Students will benefit as we can discuss my projects in class and brainstorm together. For example, how to market/advertise the College and Career Fair in September. I can't wait to hear the students ideas!!
I am very excited for the 2018-2019 school year. I am teaching Introduction to Business A in the Fall and Introduction to Business B in the Spring. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
