Meet Mrs. Kim

Nicole J. Kim, MA

Math Teacher at West Ranch High School

Secondary Mathematics Specialist at the UCLA Curtis Center for Mathematics and Teaching

Mrs. Kim has been loving teaching as a professional credentialed teacher for 25 years. Mrs. Kim earned her BA from the University of California, San Diego. She received her teaching credential and Master’s degree from the Graduate School at the University of California, Irvine. She has a professional Single Subject clear teaching credential in Mathematics (all three levels). She is also certified to teach dual language in Korean-English curriculum for K-12. She brings a wide variety of experiences to teaching.

She treasures her 4,000 plus students she has taught in her teaching career and the teachers she has worked with through the UCLA Curtis Center for Mathematics and Teaching, at West Ranch, and the schools she has taught. When you ask her why she teaches math, she says, “teaching mathematics gets me excited and I keep learning; there’s no joy quite like seeing a child’s light bulb turn on as they discover and connect the why and how part of the mathematics they are learning.”.

Mrs. Kim formerly served as Assistant Director and Secondary Mathematics Specialist at the UCLA Curtis Center for Mathematics and Teaching. She chose to come back to West Ranch full time to be there for her students and her daughters during their crucial time of academic career and development. Mrs. Kim was also on the middle school team for the Smarter Balanced – UCLA Performance writing project for the 1st cycle. She was invited to be on the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Panel) in Washington DC. She also served as Common Core Curriculum site lead for the William S. Hart School District.  She also has a varied background of positions, including math department chairperson, GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Coordinator, school site council member, Model United Nations advisor, ICSTEM Advisor, Coding Olympia Advisor, FBLA Advisor, Math Counts Advisor, Professional Develop Team, and Master Teacher.
