Welcome to 12th grade Economics! This course is a requirement for graduation but can also provide you with a solid foundation in how the economic world interacts at a personal, national and international level. This semester, you will study supply and demand, productivity, business organizations, and financial institutions. In addition to the economic theory, you will also gain practical financial knowledge and skills that will help you live independently in the world.

TEST DAY!
No homework. On Friday, students will have a work day in class to finish writing their free-response questions, complete the Credit and Credit Cards packets, take any missing Budget Challenge quizzes, and turn in any missing assignments. The end of the quarter is next week so Friday will be a clean up day before moving on to the next unit.

- Unit Test Review - I passed out and explained the instructions for the unit review. It is not graded but simply a resource for students to use to prepare for the test. The answer key will be posted on this site on Sunday night. Any textbook chapters you need are also posted below.
- Elasticity of Demand and Supply - This was our last section of chapters 4 and 5 to complete before the test. After taking class notes (see the PPT below), students completed the "Applying the Principles" on their own (I've included the key below in case you want it to check your work)
- Update Budget Challenge - After grading the Cash Flow Spreadsheet, I made sure that all students had the correct bank balances in their CFS as of 2/29/16. It is now your responsibility to keep it up-to-date through the remainder of the simulation. Students also made sure to pay their cell phone and credit card bills to avoid any late fees. These bills along with their new paycheck amount (you got a raise!) should now be reflected in your CFS.
- Finish Supply and Demand Group Project - students had the rest of the period to get their project completed and turned in. Any students that finished early were encouraged to work on their review sheet or the credit and credit cards packet.
Your Unit 2 Test is next Tuesday and the Credit packet is due on Thursday!

- Groups developed a new use for their product from home. On their posters, they needed to create an advertisement as well as 8 graphs showing changes in supply and demand (each member of the group created one of the supply graphs and one of the demand graphs).

- Supply Class Notes and Application - students completed the notes (see the PPT below) and then completed the applying the principles section on their own; the concepts for supply are pretty much the same as they were for demand except the graphs are inverted.
- Students completed the final step of this section by looking at PRICE or the interaction of supply and demand. The class notes are part of the PPT below. After taking notes, students watched Mr. Clifford's Econ video using Indiana Jones to explain supply and demand (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RP0j3Lnlazs). Finally, they finished the last application section before turning in their packet.
- What's Next Project (Checking Accounts) - students had the rest of the period to begin working on a series of activities that teach them about how checking accounts work and how they write checks; they will have time on Tuesday as well to work on this; it is due next Thursday 2/25 for periods 2/4 and Friday 2/26 for period 7.

- Buckle-Up and Week 1 Quizzes for Budget Challenge - I went over the questions and answers with students before they took the quiz just to help them through these early quizzes (PPT with the questions and answers are attached below). - We spent the rest of the period with students learning how to pay bills in Budget Challenge and update their Cash Flow Spreadsheets (can be found through Google Classroom). At this point, students should have their auto insurance (due by 2/8) and credit card (due by 2/6) invoices set to be paid.

- Group Activity (Principles 6-10) - Students worked in their group to complete the activities/discussions for Economics Principles 6-10. If you were absent, please complete these on your own.
- Chapter 1, Section 3 (Basic Economic Language) Class Notes and Applying the Principles - Students completed their key terms, focus questions, and notes for this section using the PPT attached below. The PPT includes a key to the Applying the Principles section in case you need it to check your answers.
- The Chapter 1 packet was due before students started the assessment. If it was not turned in at that time, students will lose professionalism points for the packet.
- Chapter 1 Assessment - We will be using Juno as our online testing format. Students created their accounts and took the 18 question test before moving on to the Budget Challenge. This will a small "quiz" just to make sure students are paying attention in class and keeping up with the material. Their unit tests will involve more complex questions compared to a chapter test.
- H&R Block Budget Challenge - Students needed to complete the following items during class today. We will finish the "prep" work for the simulation on Friday.
- Vendor Selections - Using the information packet provided to you, complete your vendor selections until all of the tabs are green. As you complete the selections, you need to justify your choices on the back of the "Day 1 Activities" worksheet which will be collected on Thursday.

- Chapter 1, Section 2 (Economics Way of Thinking) Class Notes and Applying the Principles - Students completed their key terms, focus questions, and notes for this section using the PPT attached below. The PPT includes a key to the Applying the Principles section in case you need it for an explanation.
- Introduction to the H&R Block Budget Challenge - Students created their project folder which we will be using for reference materials throughout the semester. They watched the introduction video to the Budget Challenge and then began the registration process (I included the instructional video for this as well). With the remaining time in class, students started their vendor selections which they justified on the back of the Day 1 Activities worksheet.
** There will be a Chapter 1 test on Wednesday after we finish Principles 6-10 and Section 3. The test will have 20-25 questions include 2-3 free response questions.

- What's Next Project - I gave students about 25 minutes to continue their work on this assignment since I wasn't here on Tuesday to fully explain it. I will be grading them this weekend. We will be using the information about their careers, homes, and families as we continue the other parts of the What's Next Project throughout the semester.
- 10 Principles of Economics - students completed the chart in their packet using the notes provided (we did not do pages 5-7 in the packet; we will wait until Friday to complete that). - Finish your "Planet Money Makes a T-Shirt" packet and turn it in. The reading resources are available in the classroom or in the files listed below.
- Last week I briefly introduced our What's Next Project. We are going to be completing this project online so today students will use Google Classroom to complete the first two assignments. You can access Google Classroom by simply typing in the name in a search or go to https://classroom.google.com/. Once to the site, you will need to sign in to your SCHOOL Google account and then enter the class code.

- Once in Google Classroom, students should complete two What's Next assignments: My Career and My Home and Family. If students have the previous What's Next assignment complete, all they needed to do is transfer the information and add some additional research. These two assignments need to be submitted through Google Classroom by class time on Thursday 1/21 but you should be able to get them done during class today.

- I briefly reviewed the key elements of the syllabus.
- Planet Money Makes a T-Shirt video and article questions - students watched a video about the global process of making a t-shirt; during the video, they completed a vocabulary sheet with examples of some of the key words; when the video was over, they read four articles that went into more depth on some of the topics and answered questions related to those topics. The completed packet was due at the end of the period.
- If time permitted, students used the laptops to complete the What's Next Project - Assignment #1 which asked them to research their chosen career and develop an idea of what they picture for their life by the age of 30. We will use this information as we continue the What's Next Project throughout the semester.
