Ch. 7 Food for Thought

For many (not all) items in the store, the generic store brand and the name brand items are produced by the same company in the same factory with a different label, but the name brand costs more.

For this assignment, you are going to compare the name brand items to the generic store brand items to see how much money you save if your bought the store brand equivalents instead. While it is best to do this in-store, with the caution due to COVID, please use the store's app (Ralph's, Walmart, etc.) or a grocery delivery app (InstaCart, etc.) to compare the prices. Please make sure you are comparing items with similar quantity.

The biggest savings on these items tends to be with medicine, even though I did not include those in this activity.

Due:

Ch. 7 Double Discounts in Google Classroom

Ch. 7 Double Discounts

Who doesn't love a discount, even more-so when there are two discounts. Often stores will run double discounts as a way to convince consumers that they are getting a better sale than they actually are. In our minds we think of a 40% discount followed by a 20% discount as a 60% discount, but it is actually only a 52% discount.

Watch my video to understand how double discounts are calculated, then complete the assignment.

Ch. 6 Opportunity Cost in Google Classroom

Ch. 6 Opportunity Cost

Opportunity cost is the other side of every decision, it can be good, bad or neutral depending on each circumstance. For every decision you make, there is now something you could not do, it can be because of money, time, experience, etc. It can be as simple as, if I go out to eat for lunch today, I cannot use that money to buy gas. If I go to this concert then I cannot go to...(other event happening at the same time).

Complete the worksheet, coming up with two other opportunities given up for each example, then come up with a few extra of your own.

Due:

Ch. 6 0% for 24 Months in Google Classroom

Ch. 6 0% for 24 Months

One of the greatest marketing tools is 0% interested for a term, it sucks everyone in, but most people ended up losing big. Read the terms of the deal at the top of the worksheet, then navigate through the questions. There are right and wrong answers on this worksheet, make sure to do the math!

Two biggest scams from these deals...
1. The minimum purchase required for the deal usually higher than typically priced items, so you have to spend more to qualify.
2. If you are ever late or miss a payment, the interest rate is HUGE and is BACKCHARGED to the purchase date and added to your balance, even in you only have a couple payments left!

For the back, you will watch two advertisements or commercials, whether on TV, or an add waiting for your youtube video to load, and analyze it to pick out what is actually being sold to you (not what the item is, but the experience, the promise, the result of using their product, ie, beauty, success, peace, fulfillment) and what techniques they are using.

IF YOU HAVE THE SAME CONTENT AS OTHERS IN THE CLASS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!
