Welcome to American Sign Language!
I am Ms. Cottrell, the ASL teacher at West Ranch! I began my journey in ASL as a student at West Ranch High School. After graduating in 2018, I expanded my studies at California State University, Northridge in their undergraduate Deaf Studies Program. While I was there, I was a frequent member of the Deaf Studies Association, attending many Deaf events in Northridge and Santa Clarita.
After graduating with my Bachelor's in 2022, I began my teaching credential program. I earned a Single Subject Credential in American Sign Language.
My first two years teaching were at Grant High School in Van Nuys as part of LAUSD. During that time I also worked to earn my Master's Degree in Secondary Education focusing on Curriculum and Instruction.
I came back to West Ranch my third year of teaching and have been here since!
I am looking forward to a great school year!
