Today I introduced the Final Project. Students are working in groups to create an ultimate travel adventure - a plan for a one-year tour of the world with specific activities and sites they need to address. The goal is to help students discover all the world has to offer. They are searching for everything from adventure tours to humanitarian trips.
Part of the final grade is a video or slide show presentation highlighting some of their trip. These will be presented on their last day of AP World (Final Exam Day). See instructions below. The planning worksheets were shared with each group in class.

Many students were out today due to the AP Chem exam. As a result, students that were in class just worked on finishing their Cold War packet. - Group Activity - The Path to War (Aggression, Appeasement and War)
- Students worked in their groups discussing a series of scenarios that confronted the world in the years leading up to WWII. Groups were asked to choose the action they would take and justify why.
- Causes of the War - once students were done with preview activity, they worked with their groups to research the causes of the war using the links provided in Google Classroom (we will finish this on Monday)

Short class periods today due to CAASPP testing schedule.
- Students turned in four different assignments that they have been working on over the past few days: Imperialism in Africa, Imperialism in Asia, Key Concept 5.2 and Key Concept 5.4
- QUIZ (KC 5.2 and 5.4) - if you were absent, please make arrangements to come in outside of class to make this up in the next week.
- I returned the Period 5 test from before Spring Break. Students had a chance to look it over quickly but with the short periods, they didn't have much time. We will be coming back to the test over the next couple of weeks.
- Students were also given an estimated AP score based on the last test to help them focus their studying and writing strategies.
HW: Key Concept 6.1 is due next Tuesday; there will be a quiz on 6.1 AND World War I (Friday's lesson) on Tuesday; I've included a handout from the AMSCO book which should help significantly with this key concept
IMPORTANT: Next Thursday 4/25 will be the SAQ portion of the final exam. It will be structured and time exactly like the AP exam. We will review some important strategies for writing and earning maximum points. Remember that the final is worth double points!

- We will be moving Imperialism (KC 5.2) until after Spring Break.
- The Period 5 Test will still be the two class periods before Spring Break, it just won't include Imperialism.
- French Revolution
- Students were given a handout with an overview of the French Revolution. This revolution is not specifically mentioned in the key concepts but it is important to know as part of the developments in Europe and the Americas. It won't show up as an LEQ, DBQ, or SAQ on the AP exam, but it may be used as evidence as part of a broader question. Students are encouraged to review it and understand the gist without getting to caught up in the details.
- There is an assignment in Google Classroom that includes the video we watched in class today as well as the handouts - one is on the stages of the French Revolution and the other is a Freemanpedia summary.
- Funko POP Characters
- Students worked in partners created Funko POP characters on Enlightenment Thinkers and Revolutionary Leaders. They chose from a series a names provided in class to avoid any overlap.
- Students will have 30 minutes to finish this on Tuesday.
- If you were absent, we can get you caught up and get a person for you on Tuesday.

- Students participated in this fun, but challenging activity that took them through the development of an English village during the Industrial Revolution.
- If you were absent, you will not need to make up the assignment. However, I recommend that you go through the slides below so you can gain and understanding of the impact the Industrial Revolution had on life in Britain.

Today we had a guest speaker who was a Holocaust survivor. He spoke to all of the 10th grade students during 5th period. If you were in 5th period, you will need to complete this work as homework.

- Stages of Genocide: The Holocaust
- This activity needs to be completed and submitted in Google Classroom by the beginning of class on Thursday. It counts as a project grade so take the time to do well and use it as a learning experience.

- With 80 days to go before the AP Exam, I introduced students to Mr. Freeman's review blog that he updates daily with content and skills. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that students use this resources to begin their review for the AP exam. It would be a quick and easy way to spend 5-10 minutes per day preparing.
- To get started, we watched "History of the Entire World, I Guess" - a clean version that is edited for teachers.
- Land-Based Empires: Russia
- Students used the PPT posted below and research with their group to complete the notes in their packet. This is the last topic we will cover before the test.
- Review and practice questions

- Each group reviewed and commented on the contextualization and thesis statements that were written last week. As a result, each group was able to get feedback on their own work.
- After that, students collaborated on a group document (DBQ Organizer) in Google Classroom where they wrote about the documents and how they connected to their thesis and groupings.
- On Monday, students will see examples of completed DBQs for this essay and the AP DBQ from last year as the final preparation to writing their own next Friday.

The questions will be available for 48 hours starting at 3:00 PM. They are set up as "lessons" so students can answer them until they get the correct answer which means they will only earn the 2 points extra credit (per time period) if they have 100% for each set of questions). Periods 1 & 2 will be available Wed-Fri, Period 3 from Fri-Sun, and Period 4 from Sun-Tues. None of the questions will be available the night before the exam.

- To wrap up the discussion of the role of silver in global trade, students started analyzing 7 documents in preparation for a group DBQ that they will be working on Monday. If they didn't finish the doc analysis in class, it is NOT homework. They will have 10 minutes in class to finish before the DBQ.

- Wellness Wednesday - In an effort to have a more structured wellness plan for 2nd semester, I'm having students focus on wellness. Today they read an article introducing them to the concept with suggestions on how they can focus on wellness to relieve their own stress. Each Wednesday, students will complete a short prompt from a Wellness Journal that asks them to increase their own awareness, happiness, and well-being. These prompts will be scored for thoughtful completion as a Bell Ringer. Today's focused on "Finding Gratitude".

HW: Complete sections II and III in your Key Concept 4.1 packet. This includes a short amount of research from Freemanpedia, two articles to read (posted below) as well as Crash Course #21. You do NOT need to the Explorers Mini Project - we will do this in class on Monday.

- Students turned in "The Worlds of the 15th Century" Reading Guide.
- Groups had 15 minutes to finish their Summary + HIPP paragraphs from last class.
- 2017 DBQ (Analysis of documents, scoring guidelines, and student samples)
- Students had 12 minutes to analyze the 7 documents from the 2017 DBQ in order to simulate the "reading period" they will have on the AP exam. This gives students a chance to judge their own analysis and timing. When they were done, they received the actual document analysis from the College Board and compared it to their own work.
- We reviewed the DBQ rubric that is used for the AP Exam and students had a chance to review the in-depth scoring guidelines that the readers use for the AP exam.
- Working in groups, students reviewed 6 sample student essays and scored them based on their interpretation of the scoring guidelines.
- When groups were done, they had a chance to see what scores each essay actually received.
HW: Key Concept 4.1 Packet - complete the viewing guides for Crash Courses 9, 18 & 19
We are in the library on Thursday. Bring your KC 4.1 packet with you because you will have time to work on Thursday's homework assignment if you finish early.

- Group Activity - Key Concept Sketch Notes
- Before we jump into our next time period, we are taking a couple of days to review last semester and practice writing skills.
- For today's activity, each group was assigned one of the Key Concepts that we studied from 1st semester. Their task was to condense their Key Concept into a one-page Sketch Notes poster. They are completing this first one as a group but eventually will be creating individual Sketch Notes for all of the Key Concepts in preparation for the AP exam so this is practice for that later process.
